Skyscanner Flight Booking In India
Skyscanner is one of my favorite tools for finding amazing deals on airfare. They use a powerful tool to search hundreds of airlines and other booking sites. You can think of it as a search tool of search tools, with a really great map feature. You can find great deals on airfare, but is Skyscanner safe to use?
Skyscanner primarily functions as a search engine for airlines and other online booking sites. Think of it as a “metasearch” site. They find you great deals and refer you to the site to book the flight. You won’t generally purchase tickets directly on the Skyscanner website.
That being said, Skyscanner is a very legit site with a good reputation. They started in 2002 as one of the most comprehensive metasearch engines for airfare. Since then, many competitors have popped up, but I still find Skyscanner to be one of the easiest and best sites to find great deals on airfare.
What is Skyscanner Flight?
Skyscanner is an online booking website that allows you to easily find cheap flights anywhere in the world. Easily find great hotels to accommodate your gang and hire transport to get around once you are there.
Simply put, Skyscanner is like an online travel agent which searches hundreds of airlines and booking agencies across the world to rank the flights for you. The flights are then listed in the order of Best, Cheapest, and Fastest depending on your preference. Finding flights with Skyscanner is so easy because it stops you from checking out all the competitor’s websites one at a time, instead, seeing all the flights at a glance.
Below I will show you how to get the most out of using Skyscanner for flights. Whether you are just jumping on there for pure research, dreaming and searching for inspiration, or actually parting with cash and laying down a real booking.
How does Skyscanner work?
Skyscanner is a travel search engine that helps users find the cheapest flights, hotels, and car rentals for their desired destinations and travel dates.
Here’s how it works:
-
- Search: The user inputs their departure and arrival cities, dates of travel, and the number of travelers into Skyscanner’s search engine.
- Results: Skyscanner searches through a vast database of flight, hotel, and car rental options from various travel providers and presents the results to the user in a comprehensive list.
- Filter: The user can filter the search results based on their preferences, such as flight duration, price range, airline, or hotel rating.
- Booking: Once the user selects their preferred option, Skyscanner redirects them to the travel provider’s website to complete the booking process.
Skyscanner uses sophisticated algorithms to gather and analyze data from various travel providers to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information to its users. Additionally, Skyscanner earns a commission from the travel providers for each booking made through their website, so the service is free for users.
What to Look Out For When Using Skyscanner
Because Skyscanner is a metasearch site, their primary focus is on finding you the cheapest airfare. They search a huge network of third-party Online Booking Agents (OBAs) and refer you to the one with the cheapest price. However, they don’t use the reliability of the booking agents as a factor in their ranking.
The OBA is ranked on Skyscanner using a star system, similar to other dating sites. Users can rate the booking agent and provide feedback on their experience. Before booking any tickets from a Skyscanner referral, you need to verify the booking agent has a good reputation.
You will have heard of many of these booking agents, like Expedia, Travelocity, etc. However, many of them you won’t be familiar with. Viana, Hop2, and JustFly just to name a few. Just because you haven’t heard of an OBA, doesn’t mean it’s not safe to use. But you need to do your homework.
Do a Google search for terms like “Hop2 reviews” or “Hop2 experiences” to ensure the booking agent can be trusted. Review sites like Trust Pilot, and Sitejabber are good places to start.
Skyscanner Flight Booking In India
Skyscanner is a powerful flight search engine that can help you save money on flights. It allows you to search for flights from multiple airlines and travel sites, and compare prices to find the best deals.
Here are some tips on how to use Skyscanner to save money on flights:
1. Be flexible with your travel dates
One of the easiest ways to save money on flights is to be flexible with your travel dates. Skyscanner allows you to search for flights across an entire month or even year, so you can find the cheapest days to fly.
2. Set up price alerts
If you have a specific travel date in mind but want to wait for a better deal, you can set up price alerts on Skyscanner. Simply enter your travel details and select “Get Price Alerts” to receive notifications when the price of your flight changes.
3. Use the “Everywhere” feature
If you’re not sure where you want to go, or just want to find the cheapest destinations, use Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” feature. This will show you the cheapest flights to destinations all over the world.
4. Search for flights in incognito mode
Some airlines and travel sites use cookies to track your search history and raise prices if they see you’re interested in a particular flight. To avoid this, search for flights in incognito mode or clear your cookies before each search.
5. Be flexible with your departure and arrival airports
If you live in an area with multiple airports, search for flights from all of them to see if one airport has significantly cheaper fares than the others. You can also use Skyscanner’s “Nearby” feature to search for flights from nearby airports.
6. Book your flight at the right time
Skyscanner’s data shows that the best time to book flights is usually around 7 weeks before departure. However, this can vary depending on the destination and time of year, so be sure to check Skyscanner’s “Best Time to Book” feature for specific recommendations.
7. Consider alternative airlines
Don’t just stick to the big airlines – smaller, budget airlines can often offer significantly cheaper fares. Use Skyscanner to search for flights from a variety of airlines to find the best deal.
